‘Aim to be a volunteer, a teacher and a friend and you school will remember you. I promise you won’t forget them’ Laura Scott 2007
We have a variety of projects that have evolved since our first volunteers arrived in 2000. Many people choose to teach in village schools that genuinely need volunteers. The schools are very happy, vibrant places where you will soon make a real contribution and feel at home. Volunteers support the local English teachers and usually lead the lessons after a short while. Your passions such as sport, music, drama and singing will all be hugely appreciated and many of our volunteers have built an after school curriculum based on these activities.
‘Art is something that is close to my own heart and the highlight for me was the after school clubs. My class would end a session by teaching me African songs- by the time I left I knew the Tanzania National anthem off by heart!’
Becky Holland 2007
There are two local orphanages that have welcomed our volunteers as care workers and provide a permanent home for unwanted children. If you are interested in healthcare we have volunteer places on a local Aids awareness program as well as at a local hospital. Volunteers can now gain experience as a journalist on a local Arusha newspaper.
‘We held a netball tournament and had a trophy sent out form the UK. The kids loved it and were so proud to win. Presenting it to the winning team in assembly was really lovely.’
