Conservation Volunteering

Conservation Volunteering is our newest programme in Australia and promises to be a fantastic and extremely worthwhile trip. You will be working, living and eating with a group of 6 to 10 other volunteers from all around the world who have the same passions and interests as you. It is a brilliant opportunity to protect, preserve and restore the Australian natural environment as well as making lifelong friends and having the time of your life. There are a number of different projects that you could be doing, based in various places around the country.

At the end of the application form for Australia, you will be asked to pay the first £50 of the program fee. Once we receive this, and your application form, we will fix a time for an informal telephone interview with you. If, after interview, we were unable to offer a place we would return the £50 to you

What will I be doing in Australia?

You can be a Conservation Volunteer in some of Australia's most beautiful landscapes that most tourists don't have the chance to see. The work you would be doing would be planting trees, restoring beaches and boardwalks, track construction, weed control or wildlife surveys.

The conservation trip could last from 4 weeks up to 3 months with each project lasting for one to two weeks. This means you will be able to experience at least 2 different projects with different types of project work in each. You will join a fun-filled group of 6 to 10 people from all around the world with food and accommodation included for the duration of your project. The trips are a lot of fun and you are able to mix with people that you might not otherwise meet.

You don't need to have any experience or previous qualifications to join the project, just a passion for environment and nature and an enthusiasm to help out. You will be making some great friends whilst you are abroad and you will be spending a significant amount of time together. The group is made up of people from all over the world who come to volunteer so the group can be quite diverse. Read our blog for more information.

Getting there

You will be given full details on how to get to our partner's offices from your arrival point into Australia. Once you meet our partners they will give you an orientation presentation about your time working with them and being in Australia and then you will be transported to your project. You usually have the weekend free with your fellow volunteers before you start your project work.

Supporting you

You will meet our partners when you arrive at their offices at 11am on the Friday of the start of your project. Our representatives are there to be a helpful friend to you and steer you through difficulties of any kind. The project leaders will be there for you to sort out any problems that you don't feel able to handle yourself.

Accommodation

Your accommodation is provided for you throughout your time on project. The type of accommodation will vary from project to project and you could be staying in caravans, hostels, shearers' quarters, bunkhouses and camping (tents will be provided). You will need to take a sleeping bag and sleeping mat and you should be prepared to share a room.

Food is also included for your time on project; you will help with the preparation of meals and cleaning dishes as part of the group and any other household duties that need to be done. This is a fun way of getting involved in the group and a popular part of the day.
