About us

Oyster is a small and very personal company which aims to help people make the most of their gap year.

We offer a variety of paid and voluntary placements abroad. They are designed to be challenging and to give our participants new skills and experiences. They are also intended to benefit the host country. Your skills, new ideas and simple hard work are always much appreciated.

With Oyster you will get:

  • the certainty of a well-chosen job or voluntary placement with everything arranged in advance
  • a personal service from our experienced staff in the UK, who will get to know you very well before you depart
  • thorough preparation in the UK and on arrival
  • excellent support from our representative abroad who will meet you at the airport, settle you in and be there to help with problems if you need it
  • a group of fellow travellers to share the experience with

The majority of Oyster’s paid and voluntary placements have been running since the year 2000 and have been tried and tested by 100’s of people including Oyster’s Destination Manager Jon who spent his Gap Year in Tanzania before going to University. The company is owned and ran by Roger Salwey - one of the most experienced people in the Gap Year industry. Oyster is a member of the Year Out Group and adheres to its standards and code of practice. Oyster also holds an ATOL bond which is a government backed insurance schem for Travel organisers. The company has charitable aims.
