Accommodation

Volunteers stay in a sustainable, beachside hostel in Estoril, 35 minutes from Lisbon by train. Accommodation is in same-gender dorm-style rooms, with shared bathrooms. Private rooms may be available on request. Meals are served at the hostel, and a shared kitchen is available.


Travel arrangements

Fly into Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS). You will be collected on arrival and transferred to your accommodation. Return transport is not included.

You’ll receive detailed project information, packing lists, safety guidance, and arrival instructions on booking.


Medical

No specific vaccinations are required for Portugal, but consult your GP for personalised advice. Travel health insurance is mandatory.


Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance (including health, accident, and cancellation cover) is required before departure.


Any risk factors

Lisbon and the surrounding coastal areas are generally safe. Be aware of petty theft in tourist areas and follow beach safety advice during surf sessions.


Downtime

Afternoons and weekends are free to relax at the beach, explore Lisbon, or take part in optional cultural activities, surf trips, or eco-tours.


Accessibility

This project involves physical activity (surfing, walking, lifting bags), so may not be suitable for volunteers with mobility challenges. Please contact us to discuss any specific needs.


Financial Security

All payments are financially protected. If your booking includes flights arranged through a travel partner, your trip will be ATOL-protected. Other payments are safeguarded through accredited financial protection schemes.
