Day 1 – Welcome to Bangkok
Arrive in Thailand’s energetic capital and meet your friendly group leader. After settling into your accommodation, enjoy a fun tuk-tuk tour and your first Thai dinner as you get to know your fellow travellers and explore the city by night.
Day 2 – Markets, Canals & City Sights
Enjoy a free day with the chance to explore iconic sights like the Maeklong Railway Market, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, or cruise the Chao Phraya River by long-tail boat. Optional dinner and night market visit in the evening.
Day 3 – Erawan Waterfalls & Kanchanaburi
Head west to the province of Kanchanaburi, home to jungle-clad waterfalls and historic landmarks. Spend the day hiking and swimming at the Erawan Waterfalls before checking into your accommodation by the River Kwai.
Day 4 – Relaxation or Adventure
Choose between a rejuvenating hot spring and massage experience or an adventurous e-scooter tour through Kanchanaburi’s countryside. In the afternoon, travel to Ayutthaya and hop on a sleeper train bound for Chiang Mai.
Day 5 – Homestay & Local Life
Arrive in Chiang Mai and head to a peaceful village for a unique homestay experience. Enjoy a home-cooked lunch, walk through the village, and join your hosts for dinner, offering a glimpse into Thai family life.
Day 6 – Elephants & Cooking Class
Visit an ethical elephant sanctuary where you can learn about conservation and observe elephants in their natural environment. After lunch, return to Chiang Mai with an optional Thai cooking class in the evening.
Day 7 – Temples & Waterfalls
Spend the morning visiting Wat Doi Suthep and participate in a Monk Chat experience to learn more about Buddhism. Optional afternoon trip to the “Sticky Waterfalls” for fun climbing and exploration.
Day 8 – Fly to Phuket
Check out and fly south to Phuket, Thailand’s famous island paradise. After check-in, enjoy a relaxed evening by the sea or explore the local markets.
Day 9 – Island-Hopping Day Tour
Take a full-day boat trip to the Phi Phi Islands. Snorkel, swim, and relax on white-sand beaches. Visit iconic spots like Maya Bay and Bamboo Island with lunch included.
Day 10 – Free Time in Phuket
Enjoy a day at your own pace. Relax by the beach or pool, or opt into activities like watersports, a beach massage, or a family-friendly adventure park.
Day 11 – Fly to Cambodia
Check out and catch a flight to Siem Reap. After arriving, explore the city on foot with your guide. Visit local pagodas, enjoy a monk blessing, and explore the riverside and night market.
Day 12 – Temples of Angkor
An inspiring day exploring Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, and Bayon temples. Learn about the Khmer Empire while wandering through jungle ruins and admiring ancient architecture. Optional visit to a night market or traditional Cambodian circus in the evening.
Day 13 – Countryside Temples & Phnom Penh
Travel by private bus across Cambodia, stopping for lunch and a short tour at Sambour Prei Kuk, a pre-Angkorian temple complex. Arrive in Phnom Penh in the evening and relax or explore nearby restaurants.
Day 14 – History, Culture & Sunset Cruise
Visit Toul Sleng (S21) Prison and the Killing Fields to understand Cambodia’s recent history (optional for younger travellers). In the afternoon, explore Phnom Penh’s creative district and trampoline park. Finish the day with a sunset dinner cruise on the Mekong River.
Day 15 – Departure Day
Check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport. Optional post-trip accommodation or further travel extensions available on request.

Each tour has an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour leader. You will have a combination of western and local leaders. All leaders will have fully equipped first aid kits and are English speakers.
We’d recommend this tour to be suitable for children from age 6 and up, as some of the activities may not be suitable for children younger than this – email us to learn more.
Typically, 20 people take part in each tour.
Yes! There are laundry facilities at the accommodation along the route. Your tour leader will tell you when it is best to do laundry, based on when there is enough time in one place for laundry to dry.
You’ll be able to store your luggage in your room. There are safes in the room and a safe for valuables at reception. There will be occasions when your luggage will be kept in storage facilities at railway stations.
The climate is warm all year round in South East Asia.
- The cooler season is from December-February ranging from 15-30C.
- March-June is the hottest time of the year with temperatures between 30-45C,
- The rainy season is between July-November when it will be around 25-35C.
- You can organize your visa on arrival in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia so no need to get them in advance. This is the case for most countries, but do check your country’s status before departure.
- To get a visa in Laos, you will need passport photo and $35 in cash ($36 for some weekends and holidays).
- For a visa into Cambodia, you will need to bring a passport photo and $36 in cash. The costs may vary depending on your nationality.
- For the majority of nationalities, you can get a free tourist visa on arrival in Thailand and Vietnam.
- You should always visit your GP or local travel clinic to find the most up to date information about vaccinations. It is strongly recommended that you are vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B and tuberculosis. These are entirely optional (at your own risk) as these diseases do occur in Southeast Asia but are not common. Please follow your doctor’s advice.

- Where necessary, the accommodation provides mosquito net so you do not need to bring your own
- We do recommend mosquito repellent though – easier to carry!
- There is low/very low risk at some of destinations you’ll visit. For the destinations with low/very low risk, American CDC and British NaTHNaC recommend awareness of risk and bite avoidance rather than malaria tablets.
- It is advisable that you visit a GP or travel nurse for professional and medical advice.
There are many modern medical facilities and hospitals and you will always have access to medical help while you are on the tour.
Whether you are a solo traveler or traveling as a couple, pair or group, you are welcome to join the tour!
Throughout your tour, you will be able to communicate with your tour leader. Your tour leader will not accompany you for all activities, but is contactable at all times. For each leg, you will have a different English-speaking tour leader, who is an expert in that area.
Staff at Oyster’s head office and in-country will be responsible for your safety and welfare while you are on the tour. This will start from the moment you arrive at the meeting point. Before and after these times, you will be outside Oyster’s responsibility and should make sure that you act safely and avoid risk. This is also true if you choose to leave the project during your time off. We will give you plenty of guidance and advice about this.
All bedding is provided. Towels are not supplied but can be rented from the hostel reception for a small fee.
There are plenty of ATMs so accessing money in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia is straightforward. We advise that you let you bank know in advance that you are traveling.
We recommend a budget of £5-10/ $7-15 pp for food and drink each day .
Yes, there are so many different options to choose from. The tour leader will be able to help direct you to suitable restaurants.
You will be heading to some remote areas where, depending on your network, your phone may not work, but you can get a local SIM or use WiFi for internet if you need to.
