Last month the Thai elephant sanctuary that we work with celebrated its 12 year anniversary. This is a huge milestone and it is fantastic that they have been helping these beautiful, majestic creatures for such a long time. Over the past 12 years many elephants have escaped poor treatment and abuse thanks to this sanctuary and the work of its volunteers. Volunteers get involved in all aspects of taking care of these elephants. From preparing food and feeding the elephants to helping out with maintenance around the park, volunteers play a vital role in keeping the sanctuary going. A really great thing about this sanctuary is that all this good work can be done against the backdrop of the elephant’s natural environment. Animal welfare is a relatively new concept in Thailand so sanctuaries like this one really are paving the way for a better future for all sorts of animals. They help to change the attitudes of local people and volunteers get the opportunity to see for themselves the challenges that face elephant conservation in other parts of the world.
We are delighted to be working alongside the sanctuary and are extremely proud of all the good work that they have done over the past 12 years. If you would like to help preserve and improve the lives of elephants in Thailand then why not volunteer. Find out all about the programme and how you can get involved here.
